Arts Council Confirms Nine Public Art Commissions

The Arts Council of the Velocity Interoperability Network today confirmed the nine public art commissions transferred to it by member organisations on establishment. The works are sited at Central Exchange, Northgate Relay, Southbank Terminal, Eastfield Campus, Westbrook Distribution Site and Meridian Court, and have a combined contract value of 2,640,000 credits. The Council has adopted every commission on its existing terms.

One work, the paved artwork Common Ground in the central square at Central Exchange, was completed in August 2026 and is the first entry in the Council's register of public art. Two temporary works open in October 2026, and six permanent works are due for completion between November 2026 and April 2027. The register, with the site, type, status and expected completion of every work, is published on the Public Art page of this site and will be updated as works are installed.

From establishment the Council is responsible for the care and maintenance of all public art at Network sites, with 900,000 credits set aside for this purpose in its first year. New commissions are made through the Commissioning Fund, whose first round opens on 21 September 2026. Member organisations wishing to nominate a site for a new work should write to the Council; the procedure by which a nomination becomes a commission is set out on the Public Art page.
